The Phillips River Experience, Sonora Resort

On the seashore of a road-free private island, Sonora Resort is a deluxe, all-inclusive retreat in the spectacular British Columbia wilderness. Though remote, it can be easily reached in under an hour by helicopter from Vancouver airport or in 75 minutes by water taxi from Campbell River.

The resort offers both relaxation and adventure. You can spoil yourself with a massage in front of a fireplace, play a round of golf as bald eagles glide above, and soak in a hot tub with a view.

Or you can explore the surrounding ocean and rainforest.  Try your hand at landing a Tyee, a trophy salmon, or join an experienced guide to see Grizzly bears fishing in a stream. Trails lead to pristine lakes, and guides will take you ocean kayaking to watch for Orcas spouting spray into the salty air.

The Phillips River Experience is an ecological and cultural boat and walking excursion, a rare opportunity to explore the traditional territory of the Kwaiakah People. Travel past waterfalls streaming from mountains then step ashore to watch Grizzly bears forage the mossy forest while you are safe atop a viewing tower. Historical guides explain how the Kwaiakah once lived and their plans to restore their land.

In the ocean view dining room, Chef Terry Pichor creates gourmet meals incorporating fresh local West Coast produce and sustainable seafood. After dinner, drift off to sleep to the sound of gentle waves and the wind through cedars.
