VANCOUVER, BC, June 24th, 2009—The Canadian Tourism Commission today announced the appointment of Anthony Rippingale as the new General Manager – Japan, effective June 17th. Rippingale was formerly CTC’s Marketing and Promotions Manager in Japan, bringing over 10 years of tourism industry experience to the role. As the General Manager – Japan, Rippingale is now responsible for managing the CTC’s operations in Japan, in particular the partnership projects on which the CTC collaborates with in-market Provincial and Territory Marketing Organizations.
Rippingale is supported by Charles McKee, recently appointed Vice President International, who brings significant tourism experience to the CTC, including nine years as Senior Director and Vice President of Marketing at Air Canada in Montreal, and five years as General Manager – Japan and Vice President of Asia Pacific in Tokyo for Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Said McKee, “A key responsibility for Anthony will be to drive initiatives and programs for Japan, as well as to ensure program integration and alignment between the Canadian Tourism Commission and its in-market provincial tourism partners.”
In his time with the Canadian Tourism Commission, Rippingale has been responsible for a variety of program areas including consumer advertising and marketing, CRM and online marketing and more recently, Travel Trade relations and the re-launch of the Canada Specialists Program in Japan.
In a related move, Derek Galpin, formerly Regional Director, Japan and China, has been appointed Managing Director, China and India. Through economic stimulus funding from the federal government, the CTC is now expanding into new markets to maximize its visitor economy. This new appointment to lead the execution of the CTC’s strategy in India capitalizes on Galpin’s expertise in market development.
