Vancouver, BC, September 9, 2009 – Tourism is a competitive business. Tonight, the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) will host an exclusive group of meeting and event planning executives in six cities across the United States who will simultaneously connect to LIVE CANADA events to learn more about the host country of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games…Canada!
“LIVE CANADA is CTC engaging and connecting with our clients in a whole new way while positioning CTC as a leader in the industry”, said Andrew Clark, the CTC’s VP of Market Development. “We intend to go after this segment of the market vigorously to bring more meeting and convention business into Canada.”
LIVE CANADA is an innovative marketplace that for the first time virtually challenges Meeting, Convention and Incentive Travel (MC&IT) planners from across the US to learn more about the extraordinary experiences available in Canada. The event will be hosted in San Francisco, Dallas, Minneapolis, Chicago, New York and Washington, DC.
Meeting and event planners will sip and savour a few of Canada’s culinary delights, such as icewine from Ontario, artisanal cheese from Quebec and smoked salmon from British Columbia, as they sleuth their way through an onsite trivia scavenger hunt. Hosted by Canadian actor/comedian Colin Mochrie of “Whose Line is it Anyway?” fame, three LIVE CANADA participants will be selected from each city to compete against each other in hopes of winning an all-expense paid VIP trip to Canada.
With warm hospitality and state-of-the-art convention infrastructure set in vibrant cities on the edge of nature, Canada is the perfect host for international meetings and conventions. The global MC&IT market brings in over $2.8 billion to Canada each year and is a priority market for the CTC. MC&IT received stimulus funding from the Canadian government to develop and expand the business travel market.
