Destination Canada is looking for a Sales Coordinator to join our Business Events Canada (BEC) team.

As part of the BEC team, you will help generate international business for Canada in the highly competitive meetings, conventions and incentive travel sector.

Position Title: Sales Coordinator, Business Events Canada

Duties: Business Events Canada (BEC) is the division of Destination Canada (DC) charged with driving meetings, conventions and incentive travel to Canada. DC’s BEC unit focuses on seven sectors: aerospace, agriculture/food, clean technology, infrastructure/engineering, information/communication technology, life sciences and natural resources with the aim of creating new targeted partnerships. 

Reporting to the Executive Director, BEC (the “ED”), the incumbent works in tandem with the in-market sales team in the United States and the General Sales Representative in Europe to provide tactical support to drive incremental meetings, conventions and partnerships to Canada.

The role is the chief contact for in-market team members to liaise with HQ departments, such as Procurement, Finance, E-Marketing, Translation and Creative Services in order to ensure all procurement policies and processes are followed.  In this support role, the Sales Coordinator will aid in event production, including functions from sourcing venues to creating themes/creative to driving attendance from partners and clients.  The position involves considerable data entry ensuring BEC’s CRM system is up-to-date and comprehensive.

The Sales Coordinator will help activate the Canada. Keep Exploring brand and shape stakeholder perception and engagement through BEC’s world class programming.


Education: Post-secondary specialized training (courses or a two year college program), in administration, events management, tourism or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Experience:  When applying, the candidate must clearly demonstrate in writing how they meet the following experience criteria:

  • Minimum of 2 y experience in event or meeting management, preferably at a hotel or convention centre
  • Experience in an administrative assistant role
  • Experience in supporting multiple individuals
  • Experience in using CRM systems/databases
  • Experience in writing, editing and posting content on social media for an organization

Knowledge :

  • Knowledge of meeting industry trends, the international economic situation and trends and related challenges and opportunities
  • Knowledge of project management and consultation techniques
  • Understanding and application of a company’s strategic principles for plans and activities
  • Knowledge of the tourism sector, including domestic and international trends, competitiveness, opportunities, risks and associated business climate would be an asset


  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written with an excellent ability to write well in a modern and dynamic style
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop and retain relationships with stakeholders

  • Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Powerpoint and other Microsoft Office software
