The stars of the silver screen have been out in force in Toronto, ON, in September for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF to its friends). The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) was there too, making sure that Canada stayed in the spotlight in front of so many film celebrities and international media through a series of partnerships and sponsorships.
TIFF wouldn’t be TIFF without premieres and parties. CTC sponsored the event for “Take this Waltz,” written and directed by Toronto’s own Sarah Polley, and starring Seth Rogen, Michelle Williams and Sarah Silverman. Shot and set in Toronto, ON, and Halifax, NS, it’s an acutely observed and funny story of a woman’s love dilemmas. CTC brought key influencers to the party and enjoyed access to the stars for social-media and broadcast content.
CTC interviewed the stars of “Take This Waltz” and “Breakaway,” sharing the subsequent footage with media combined with b-roll clips of Canada.“Take This Waltz” was shot and takes place in Toronto, ON, the hometown of the movie’s director Sarah Polley. “Breakaway” is a cross-cultural tale of a young Sikh-Canadian seeking hockey stardom in Toronto. Canadian comedian Russell Peters stars while Akshay Kumar, Canada’s tourism ambassador to India, had a cameo role in the movie.
