Michele McKenzie, President and CEO of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), has today (Dec. 3) been named one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women.

The honour comes from WXN, which has championed the advancement and recognition of women in board, executive, management and professional roles since 1997.

Ms. McKenzie will join other honorees Dec. 4 at the awards gala at the Sheraton Tower Hotel in Toronto, ON. The theme for this year’s Top 100 Awards is “What Glass Ceiling?” Women can still face obstacles on their way to the top of their chosen profession, but many have made great strides.

Ms. McKenzie is one of the women in nine categories honoured in 2013 as a trailblazer, proof that change in boardrooms and other business practices are well underway.

Steve Allan, CTC chair, paid a glowing tribute to Ms. McKenzie in her nomination: “Michele is an excellent communicator and has been a sought-after speaker on tourism matters from coast to coast to coast in Canada, as well as internationally. Michele is the recognized leader of the tourism industry in Canada. She is respected for her business acumen, strategic approach, the ability to identify a need for change and to implement it, and her sound judgment and tact. She is an inspirational leader, who leads through inclusiveness, consultation, empowerment of her teams, and always with respect.”

Congrats Michele, from all your CTC team in Canada and abroad!

Congratulations Michele! Very well deserved to be named one of Canada's most powerful women. You stood out in my mine when I shared dinner table conversation with you at a CRTC event at Crowbush Resort in PEI a few year's ago. Nice to see good things happening to good people.

Congratulations to Michelle McKenzie on her award. We in Nova Scotia enjoyed the expertise and wisdom of having Ms. McKenzie working in our provincial tourism department on our behalf and are still receiving the benefits all her years of dedication to this industry.
Michelle:I am certain Lynn Perry, one of our most avid tourism promoters, would be most proud of you.
