Annual Vision awards and global marketing platform make a splash at giant international exhibition in Germany.
Anyone who’s anyone in the incentive travel world heads to Germany in May for IMEX. This year was no different. The huge sold-out German show had 3,500-plus exhibitors from more than 150 countries on site and Canada, led by members of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC)’s crack meetings conventions and incentive travel (MC&IT) team, was there as a major player at Messe Frankfurt.
The Canada stand, which was resplendent in the strong colours and imagery of CTC’s new global marketing platform, had 28 partners from across the country, representing destinations, convention centres, hotels and visitor bureaus, including Tourism Toronto, Tourisme Montréal, Ottawa Tourism, Travel Alberta, Tourism Vancouver, Calgary TELUS Convention Centre and Québec City Tourism. There was a Twitter wall at the stand, too, highlighting live Canada-related IMEX tweets.
On May 22, CTC held the second annual Canada Vision Awards dinner at the luxurious Hotel Villa Kennedy in downtown Frankfurt. The awards evening is a celebration of excellence, innovation and partnership. Destination Halifax was the sponsor of the 2012 awards themselves: each winner walked away with a unique Nova Scotia-glass trophy.
Forty-four attendees (including nine Canadian partners) tucked into a dinner that showcased Canadian cuisine before applauding the award-winners themselves. Reed Elsevier claimed the honours as the international organization that has executed a truly exceptional program in Canada over the past 24 months. Mash Media was top of the pile as the international industry publication that has profiled Canada as a world-class destination over the past 12 months. And Eventia was a worthy winner as the international industry partner who has dug deep to collaborate with CTC to expand its presence on the global stage.
