Top travel storytellers take a bow at CTC’s GoMedia Canada Marketplace Awards.

Kudos well-earned for the year’s best Canadian travel tales in print, blogs, photos and videos.

21 August 2014

There was food for thought as well as food for pleasure at the GoMedia Canada Marketplace awards luncheon at the Delta Winnipeg Hotel, MB. The awards form an integral part of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC)’s premier media event, and the 11th edition in Winnipeg on Aug. 20 did not disappoint.

The luncheon was hosted by Jon Mamela, CTC Chief Marketing Officer, and Cathy Senecal, Travel Manitoba Global Media Relations manager.

Cue drum roll! Here is this year’s honour roll:

    Josephine Matyas, Doctor's Review
    Pitch-black picture-perfect
“Josephine Matyas’s writing style is rich, evocative and polished, and her approach to the subjects of astronomy, light pollution and our place in the universe was really striking and thoughtful,” said judge Bruce Poon Tip. “I never suspected that I'd enjoy reading about stargazing in a national park as much as I did, and I hung on her every word (The Star Wars references were a nice touch, too.).”

(Judge: Graeme Green, UK journalist, travel writer, photographer and editor)

Als das Licht vom Himmel fiel” (“As the Light Fell From The Sky”)
“I really liked Birgit-Cathrin’s photos of the vivid green and purple aurora borealis skies and the bears,” said judge Graeme Green. “Her writing is very punchy, drawing the reader in from the start, and she gives a really evocative feel of what it’s like to be there and have those unique experiences (which, of course, makes you want to be there and experience it yourself…).”

Congratulations to you all. You make us look and sound good!

A good program that encourages people to promote tourism in Canada many of whom do it with passion and are not paid for what they do.
