Partnership with Canadian Olympic Committee celebrates one-year anniversary of 2010 Winter Games.
Love Canada? Yup. Want to help our budding athletes? Yessiree. Then become a fan of Canada on the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC)’s Facebook page, because for every new fan, one shiny loonie will go to the Canadian Olympic team.
Why? Because of a partnership between CTC and the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) that celebrates the one-year anniversary of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, held in Vancouver and Whistler, BC. The partnership aims to draw upon the passion Canadians feel for their country and get Canadian Olympic team Facebook fans to share photos and stories of their homeland.
“Canadians wore their pride for their country like a badge of honour during the Games last year,” says Gloria Loree, CTC executive director, Global Communications. “This promotion aims to tap into that passion, boost our Olympians and share Canada’s great stories with our fans.”
The partnership will also raise the profile of Canada’s present Olympians, after such a strong foundation was laid in 2010. Both CTC and COC are using Twitter accounts to drum up extra enthusiasm. The promotion will run until Feb. 28, the day of last year’s Closing Ceremony.
“This is yet another great Olympic initiative by the CTC, and one that helps build financial support for our hard-working Olympians who seek to represent Canada at the 2012 Summer Games in London and beyond," said Dennis Kim, COC executive director, Brand Marketing. "As a nation we stand on the podium and it's up to all of us to keep the passion felt in Vancouver going."
