BEC, the division of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) responsible for bringing meetings, conventions and incentive programs to Canada, hosted the fifth version of its annual Vision Awards on Tuesday May 19 during the IMEX 2015 trade show for MICE professionals held in Frankfurt, Germany.
May 20, 2015:The glittering event, designed to praise and recognise innovation and partnerships in promoting Canada, was attended by the cream of world’s MICE industry. Winners at the 2015 Vision Awards included:
International Customer of the Year: One Young World.
An award for an individual who works closely with BEC and its partners to bring a significant piece of business to the country.
One Young World is the premier forum for leaders aged 18 – 30, it brings together delegates from over 190 countries making it the most international gathering of young people other than the Summer Olympic Games. The young leaders are mentored and addressed by the One Young World Counsellors – global figures which in the past have included Bill Clinton, Kofi Annan, Richard Branson, Desmond Tutu, Muhammad Yunus, Arianna Huffington and many others. Hosting this conference showcases Ottawa and Canada as a destination for innovation and a centre of excellence for future entrepreneurs looking for business sectors that can further their ideas and economic impact to the country.
Partner Organisation of the Year: KES International.
An award for an organization that has collaborated with the CTC to expand Canada’s presence and advance its brand on the global stage.
Since first working with KES International on potentially taking events to Canada they started to make a huge investment of time and resources in making it happen. Since the middle of 2014 the company appointed a local representative in Canada to work with them in identifying key locations and lobby local interest in hosting their annual conferences – Sustainability in Energy and Buildings and Innovation in Healthcare and Medicine. Professor Robert Howlett and Faye Alexander of KES have worked tirelessly over the last 12 months laying the ground work so that Canada will become a key partner in hosting their future conferences.
Michele Saran, Executive Director, Business Events Canada, said: “Here at the BEC we are suitably proud of our partners and the tireless lengths they go to inspire the world to explore Canada and this night is the perfect opportunity for us to give something back and recognise their efforts, achievements and continuous support. Truly they are Ambassadors for the country and in highlighting their innovative work we hope to inspire a future generation of partners and further build on this mutually beneficial relationship.”
Emma Cashmore, Managing Director of Axis Travel Marketing, the European GSA for the BEC, commented:
“The Canada Vision Awards is a great way for us to underline our commitment to work with our clients and industry partners in order to bring a diversity of exciting and innovative events to Canada. Once again I was blown away by the standard of the entries for this year’s awards. Every year the quality seems to get that bit better, raising the bar yet higher for the following year.”
